Background

Key Central offers customized software solutions for the agricultural industry based on decades of experience in farming. Their flagship product, Agriscan, streamlines agricultural operations and data management for apple orchardists with the capabilities to track the volume of produce harvested, manage payroll, monitor crop yields, and ensure compliance with labor regulations.

Challenge

The legacy Agriscan app relied on obsolete scanners to track bins of apples harvested which led to data sync failures due to intermittent connectivity on the orchards. KeyCentral decided they needed to rebuild the Agriscan app so it could work with newer scanners, have offline data sync capabilities, and generate accurate, real-time reports to better track crop yields and automate payroll calculations.

Solution

Covalience assembled a dedicated development team including UI/UX designers, .NET engineers, QA engineers, and a project coordinator to successfully rebuild the Agriscan app within 7 months.

Implementation

Covalience’s team designed and engineered a new responsive web application for Agriscan with the following features: 

  • Advanced Tracking Capabilities Implemented customizable barcode tag printing and advanced barcode scanning that enables orchardists to more accurately track apples harvested and calculate payroll.
  • Offline Data Sync Built a real-time data synchronization capability that enables orchardists in remote areas to automatically sync data to the cloud once internet connectivity is restored.
  • Streamlined Payroll Management Implemented a new feature that automates payroll with complex pay calculations, reducing manual errors and ensuring compliance with labor regulations.
  • Simplified Crop Insurance Reporting Developed a feature that consolidates multi-year crop data in a single system, allowing orchardists to easily generate comprehensive reports for insurance claims without manually compiling information from multiple sources.
