The firm had operated successfully on a Microsoft Access-based system, but growing client needs highlighted the opportunity for a more robust platform. To support complex financial scenarios and improve security, scalability, and performance, the firm partnered with Covalience to replace manual reporting with a secure, centralized web solution built for long-term compliance and efficiency.

Solution

Covalience assembled a cross-functional team comprising frontend and backend engineers, DevOps specialists, QA testers, UI/UX designers, and a dedicated project coordinator to lead the modernization of the firm's legacy trading infrastructure. Our goal was not only to transition from a Microsoft Access-based environment to a modern, secure web platform, but also to design an architecture that could enforce role-based data access, enable encrypted communications, and ensure long-term compliance with financial regulatory standards.   • Cloud-Native Architecture Rebuilt the legacy system on a modern tech stack using Angular for the frontend, .NET Core for the backend, and PostgreSQL for data storage, with future scalability and security as key architectural drivers. Hosted in a managed cloud environment, the platform utilizes CI/CD pipelines to support automated deployments and ongoing maintenance.
  • Secure Reporting & Data Compliance Replaced manual, error-prone PDF generation with a secure web-based reporting system, incorporating Firebase authentication and granular role-based access control. All data was encrypted at rest and in transit, with multi-level access configured per user role.
  • Trading & Portfolio Management Modules Delivered a custom-built trade execution and portfolio management engine supporting diverse trade types, asset classifications, and real-time reporting for institutional clients. Designed APIs to be compliant with third-party integration needs.
  • Admin & Customer Portals Built two fully separated user interfaces—an internal admin portal for the firm's staff and a secure customer portal for external banks and custodians. Each portal features dashboard analytics, automated notifications, and configurable permissions for streamlined operations.
  • Infrastructure & DevOps Integration Collaborated with a third-party infrastructure and security partner on infrastructure alignment and later transitioned to managing deployments and database monitoring in-house. Introduced observability tools and security policies for controlled access, high availability, and performance optimization.
  • Monitoring & Observability System Implemented a monitoring system which includes:
    • Log Saving: Centralized logging for all website services and APIs, enabling search, filtering, and retention of access logs, error logs, and application logs.
    • System Metrics and Load Monitoring: Continuous tracking of server and container resources such as CPU, memory, disk usage, and network traffic to ensure optimal system performance.
    • Alerting Mechanism: Real-time alerts for issues like high response times, failed requests, downtime, or system errors—sent via email and messaging platforms—to enable rapid response.
    • Sync Monitoring: Integrated monitoring of the network drive sync script, with automatic alerts triggered on any sync failures.
