Definition
DevSecOps means embedding security practices directly into the DevOps pipeline, rather than treating security as a separate, later step handled by a different team after development is complete.
Importance
Security handled as a separate final step tends to catch problems late, when fixing them is expensive and release timelines are already at risk. Embedding security into the pipeline itself, through automated scanning and checks built into every build, catches the same issues far earlier and far more cheaply, while also making security a shared responsibility rather than one team's job to catch everyone else's mistakes.
Application
We build automated security scanning, dependency checks, and access control reviews directly into CI/CD pipelines, so security validation happens as part of every build rather than as a separate gate before release. This is closely related to application security modernization, but DevSecOps specifically describes the pipeline level automation and cultural shift toward shared responsibility for security across development and operations, rather than the broader practice of secure development overall.
