Definition
UX, or User Experience, is the overall experience a person has interacting with a product, covering ease of use, efficiency, and how satisfying the interaction feels from start to finish.
Importance
A product can have every feature a user needs and still fail if using it feels frustrating or confusing, since people judge software on how it feels to use, not just on whether the functionality technically exists. Good UX reduces support burden and abandonment, while poor UX quietly drives people toward a competitor's product even when the underlying capability is comparable or better.
Application
We design for UX by understanding how the people using a system actually work, their goals, their constraints, and where they currently struggle, rather than designing in the abstract. This shapes decisions well beyond visual design, including how information is structured, how many steps a task takes, and how clearly the system communicates what's happening, since UX is ultimately about the whole interaction, not just how a screen looks.
